Businessman picked up 5 years later, released, and arrested again

Rooplall Beerjeeraz, a businessman who had been absent from Mauritius for five years, was arrested upon his return on August 5.

He faces provisional charges of excessive payment under the Financial Anti Money Laundering Act.

He recently appeared before the Financial Crimes Division in a case involving embezzlement of funds and fraud amounting to Rs 95 million concerning the Maubank.

Beerjeeraz secured a Rs 40 million loan in 2015 using falsified guarantees. He was released but… has been arrested again by the Central CID.

His wife, Marie Marjorie Nathalie Armance, is also allegedly implicated, suspected of embezzling tens of millions of rupees.

The couple’s modus operandi allegedly involved opening bank accounts for companies, applying for loans, and redirecting the money without repaying the loans.
