Parking Crackdown Intensifies: Wheel Clamps Deployed, 299 Offenders in July!

In response to the problem of illegal parking, authorities in Mauritius have intensified their efforts by using Wheel clamps (or Denver boots) on both cars and buses.

The Traffic Branch police have been vigilant, leading to a significant increase in violations, with 299 offenders in July, compared to 113 in June.

The use of wheel clamps has been noticed in various regions, including Ébène, Curepipe and Rose-Hill. Some citizens believe property developers should allocate more parking spaces for employees during construction, and others suggest using vacant land for parking.

Despite the presence of the Ébène Car Park, which offers 934 spaces, high costs reportedly discourage many from using it.

People support the ongoing crackdown on illegal parking but also suggest expanding it to evenings and weekends in areas with high demand for parking, like near fast-food outlets.

Additionally, large vehicle owners obstructing narrow streets with their parked vehicles have also been targeted for enforcement.

Overall, these measures are seen as necessary to address the parking issues and improve traffic flow.
