News Site Shuts Doors ‘Amidst Struggles Against Censorship and Threats’
Zinfos Moris, the news website based in Réunion covering Mauritian news, has announced its closure.
Over five and a half years, Zinfos Moris became a unique and independent entity in the Mauritian media landscape, having published over 40,000 articles and achieving their mission of shedding light on Mauritian news without any censorship.
Despite facing numerous “criticisms, threats, and attempts at censorship”, editor Amina Akhoun said the team remained “steadfast and independent, refusing any affiliations with political parties or local advertisers”.
“We wish a bright future for Mauritius, free from corruption, misinformation, chatwas (derogatory term for cronies of the MSM ruling party) and Opportunists.”
