Privy Council reserves judgment on Constituency No.8

The Privy Council has reserved its judgment in the appeal case brought by Suren Dayal, the defeated Labour candidate in Constituency No. 8 (Moka/Quartier-Militaire) during the general elections of 2019.

The session concluded shortly after 6:30 PM on Monday, July 10. The lawyers’ arguments began at 2 PM in London before the five Law Lords (David Lloyd Jones, Philip James Sales, Nicholas Archibald Hamblen, Sir Ben Stephens, and Dame Sue Lascelles Carr) appointed by the Privy Council.

The average timeframe for a judgment is four to six weeks. The Privy Council being on vacation in August, it is possible that the Law Lords will deliver their judgment before the holidays, Defi Media reported.

According to Senior Counsel, Me Antoine Domingue, the plea made by Me Timothy Straker, King’s Counsel and lawyer for Suren Dayal, was “not very convincing.”
