PM hits at drug traffickers’ defence tactics, announces seizures of Rs15Bn
During a speech on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth expressed his frustration with individuals defending drug traffickers and creating a climate of fear.
“Traffickers claim they are victims of planting in order to defend themselves”. He criticised those who spread fear by claiming that the authorities are responsible for it.
Jugnauth highlighted the accumulation of significant financial resources by drug traffickers and their ability to corrupt governments and individuals.
He mentioned that corruption has extended beyond certain institutions and has attempted to corrupt politicians.
Jugnauth reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his responsibility despite criticisms and threats.
He also revealed that approximately Rs 15 billion worth of drugs have been seized in Mauritius.
