PM Pravind Jugnauth revises figures he told Parliament on number of ICAC cases

PM Pravind Jugnauth has revised his figures on the number of cases referred by the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
During a Private Notice Question session on April 25, Jugnauth had stated that the ICAC had sent 41 cases to the DPP for advice.
However, the DPP disputed this a few days later, asserting that only 19 cases were awaiting advice.
On May 9, in a statement to the National Assembly, Jugnauth clarified that 41 cases were indeed awaiting a decision by the DPP, but these were from 2006 up to April 25, 2023.
He had initially claimed that these 41 cases pertained to the period of 2019-2022. Jugnauth also corrected the number of cases awaiting trial.
He acknowledged that his initial response contained a typing error, indicating 177 cases instead of the actual 117 cases.
