Mauritius MP sues ex-‘constituency clerk’ for Rs50m over ‘false allegations’

Labour Party MP Osman Mahomed is suing his former ‘Constituency Clerk’ for Rs 50 million.
In a complaint filed before the Supreme Court, Mahomed, an MP for Constituency No. 2 (Port-Louis and Port-Louis South), denounced that Sheikh Mukhtar Hossenbocus made false allegations against him in a statement to the CCID.
Hossenbocus had earlier accused him of not paying his salary for six years.
The allegations had been extensively reported on by the state-owned national broadcaster, MBC TV.
Mahomed stated the complaint of his former Constituency Clerk was done in ‘bad faith’ and was politically-motivated.
Hossenbocus resigned from the Labour Party in September 2022. He was spotted at the May Day rally of the MSM-led Alliance Morisien.
