177 doctors removed from Medical Council list of authorised practitioners

The names of 177 doctors in Mauritius have been temporarily removed from the Medical Council’s list of medical practitioners licensed to practice this year.

These 177 doctors were reportedly unable to renew their licences because they failed to achieve the mandatory 12 points through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The CPD was introduced under the Medical Council (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations 2016 to encourage doctors to attend continuing education sessions.

Since the regulations came into force, hundreds of doctors have been temporarily deregistered under the provisions of the Medical Council Act. In 2018, 25 doctors were hit. The number soared in 2019; 236 doctors were temporarily deregistered.

Suspension letters

Among the 177 doctors, six are employed at Victoria Hospital. They reportedly received their suspension letters from the Ministry of Health a few days ago.

As a result, they will not receive any salary from February until they are re-registered with the Medical Council.

If your doctor is not on the list here (uploaded by Defi Media), it means that he/she has been deregistered.
