No contract extension for Secretary of Mauritius’ Chamber of Commerce

Dr Yousouf Ismaël, Secretary General of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) does not wish to have his contract renewed. His contract is due to expire in January 2023.
“After almost three years at MCCI, Dr. Ismaël has explained that he wishes to turn to other projects and thus give a new direction to his professional career.
“The MCCI thanks Dr Yousouf Ismaël for his contribution to the institution over the past three years,” the MCCI’s Board said in a press release.
“A call for applications for this key position will be launched soon,” the MCCI added.
According to l’Express, he has apparently been offered CEO jobs in the UK.
Yousouf Ismael was arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in November 2021.
His arrest followed an investigation into a Rs 100 million contract for the replacement of pipes during his tenure as director general of the Central Water Authority (CWA).
He was brought before the Curepipe court under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PoCA)- “Public official using his office for gratification”.
