Mauritius criticised by International Maritime Organisation

Mauritian authorities have been blamed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) over port deficiencies.

In a report just published, the IMO is said to have serious concerns on at least 10 shortcomings in the way local maritime authorities operate.

Among the shortcomings cited by Defi Media reported, Mauritius does not have qualified staffs to implement established standards.

The lack of a rescue plan for passenger ships operating in Mauritian waters has also been criticised.

The report, entitled “IMO Member State Maritime Audit Report” has just been tabled at the National Assembly.
