Mauritius extends Occupation Permit to foreigners on tourist visa

New measures are being implemented so that applications for Occupation Permits and Young Professional Occupation Permits become easier.

Cabinet papers of 25 February, 2022 state that, henceforth, Occupation Permits will also be extended to foreigners on tourist visa. Previously, this permit was granted to applicants arriving in Mauritius on Business visa only.

The holder of a Young Professional Occupation Permit will be allowed to switch to the Occupation Permit category within the same company during the validity of his contract of employment.

The holder of a Young Professional Occupation Permit will be also allowed to switch to an Occupation Permit with another company.

However, this will be possible only after termination of his current contract of employment, and not during his running contract.

The Cabinet agreed that applications for Occupation Permit from students will only be considered after completion of their studies. However, employment should be related to their field of studies.
