Mauritius ponders on appointing Consul in Bangladesh

Mauritius will look into the possibility of appointing an Honorary Consul in Bangladesh, including direct connectivity between the two countries.

This was the pledge made by Deputy Prime Minister Steven Obeegadoo after he met with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Ambassador Masud Bin Momen during his visit in Mauritius.

Both countries are also looking at signing of MOUs on tourism cooperation.

Obeegadoo has been cited as saying that the Mauritian government is willing to sign the instrument during the visit of Bangladesh´s foreign minister to Mauritius this year.

However, Ambassador Masud reportedly replied that in order to promote tourism, visa processing must be made easier.

Hence, he proposed to appoint an Honorary Consul in Bangladesh to expedite the visa processing or a Consular Officer from Mauritian Embassy in New Delhi could visit Dhaka at a regular interval for visa purposes or online visa facilities can be introduced.

The need for direct air connectivity for promoting tourism was also reportedly discussed.
