Man found guilty of rape and murder of 11-year-old girl

Guilty. This was the ruling of Judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb of the Criminal Court against Jonathan James Ramasawmy. The latter was accused of having raped and killed 11-year-old Marie Eléana Edwarda Gentil.

The body of the little girl was found was found on April 15, 2015 near Nouvelle France, two kilometers from her house at Cité Anoska, 16th Mille.

Ramasawmy, 26 at that time, had reportedly even participated to search for the girl. However, he was arrested after his DNA was detected on the girl’s underwear. He eventually confessed his crime.

The representative of the Director of the Public Prosecutions, Jean Michel Ah-Sen, has pleaded for the accused to be sentenced to life imprisonment, that is 60 years.

“Sure, he pleaded guilty but never cooperated with the police during the investigation. He did not show any remorse nor did he apologize to the court and the victim’s family for this atrocious crime,” he was cited by l’Express newspaper as telling the Court.

Judge Aujayeb is yet to decide on the sentence.
