Mammoth entity to absorb national airline and others

The new Airport Holdings, the mammoth business entity which will be mandated to give a new lifeline to the distressed Air Mauritius, Mauritius Duty Free Paradise and its other subsidiaries has already been incorporated by the government.

The national carrier has been grounded for almost 17 months and has been under voluntary administration since then.

The new holding company will oversee the operations of Air Mauritius, Airports Mauritius Ltd, the Mauritius Duty Free Paradise and the Airport Terminal Operations Ltd.

Administrators of the airline are expected to hold a ‘watershed meeting’ on September 27 to outline the main areas of operation and business of Air Mauritius.

Most of the entities to be brought under Airport Holdings were generating an annual cumulative turnover of more than Rs 20 billion before the pandemic.
