Wakashio Captain’s attempt to escape from prison

Arrested and sued under a provisional charge of ‘endangering safe navigation’ after the wreck of the MV Wakashio, the vessel’s Captain Sunil Kumar Nandeshwar was reportedly among 12 detainees who tried to escape from Petit Verger Prison.

L’Express reported that an escape plan was foiled after a prison officer on patrol discovered that two prison bars at the prison, converted into a COVID-19 treatment centre for detainees, had been removed.

On viewing surveillance camera footage and after an investigation by Pointe-aux-Sables Police, it was reportedly concluded that Captain Nandeshwar was among the ones planning the ‘prison break.’
