Despite receiving a generous donation of 51,000 Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent vaccine doses, Mauritius is experiencing a reluctance among the public to get vaccinated.

So far, only 141 individuals had opted for the first dose as of September 22, 2023, one week after the start of the campaign.

The campaign primarily targets individuals over 75 and those with specific medical conditions. Reasons for the lack of enthusiasm are being attributed to the limited focus on priority groups, public holidays, religious activities, and new medical complications triggered by previous vaccines. The bivalent vaccine is presented as one to combat specific subvariants of the COVID-19 virus.
