Top textile factory faces losses of Rs7million per day

Textile factory R.E.A.L Garments Ltd, headquartered in La Tour Koenig, is reportedly on its knees after 97 of its workers who were tested positive for COVID-19 are in quarantine and 1,136 others are self-isolating in the company’s dormitories or at home.

The factory, which produces branded clothing for international markets, has reportedly accumulated losses of around Rs 7 million per day since its temporary closure last Thursday.

At this trend, irrecoverable losses of around Rs 50 million per week are being feared, Defi Media reported.

R.E.A.L Garments Ltd was set up in 1985 and has emerged to be the 4th largest supplier of textile products to the international markets with an annual turnover of around Rs800million.

It employs 1,186 people from Bangladesh, France, Italy, India, Morocco, Madagascar and Tunisia. It also employs 350 Mauritians. The factory produces designer clothes for brands like Diesel, Giorgio Armani, or Calvin Klein, among others.
