Rs20.6billion granted as leasing facilities in first quarter of 2021
Motor vehicles accounted for 88.2% of total outstanding leasing facilities

Total leasing facilities granted to the household and business sectors amounted to Rs20.6 billion as at end-March 2021, latest figures from the Bank of Mauritius show.

The motor vehicle segment accounted for 88.2% of total outstanding leasing facilities, compared to 87% a year earlier. As at end-March 2021, an amount of Rs18.1 billion was extended towards the purchase of motor vehicles, while the number of leases pertaining to the motor vehicle segment amounted to 35,944.

The BoM said as at end-March 2021, motor vehicle leases granted to the business sector and household sector amounted to Rs9.8 billion and Rs8.3 billion, respectively. 

Leasing facilities granted for buildings, office equipment, machinery and other assets, amounted to Rs2.4 billion for the same period, representing 11.8% of total leasing facilities. 

Fourteen companies provide leasing facilities to both households and corporates in Mauritius.
