Police Launch Fatal Accident Inquiry after Motorcyclist Succumbs to Injuries
A 28-year-old motorcyclist has died in hospital four days after a violent collision involving a vehicle driven by well-known jockey Rai Joorawon.
The victim, a resident of Terre-Rouge, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening, 22 April.
He had been fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of the North Hospital since the accident occurred on Saturday, 18 April.

The Incident
The fatal crash took place when the victim’s motorcycle was struck by a 4×4 vehicle driven by Mr Joorawon.
Emergency services transported the young man to the hospital in critical condition, but medical staff were unable to save him following his four-day battle.
Legal Proceedings
Prior to the victim’s passing, Mr Joorawon appeared before the Pamplemousses Court on Tuesday.
He was charged with a provisional count of involuntary wounding and blows caused by imprudence.
To secure his release, the jockey was required to:
- Pay a bail bond of Rs 25,000.
- Sign a recognisance of debt amounting to Rs 100,000.
Ongoing Investigation
Local police have launched a full investigation into the tragedy. Authorities are currently working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision as the case transitions into a fatal accident inquiry.
