Mauritius Weather Station Issues 5 Safety Rules with Thunderstorms to Approach
Stormy conditions and localized flooding could affect the Central Plateau and Western districts this Wednesday, 15 April, according to the latest bulletin from the Vacoas Meteorological Station.
Forecasters have warned of cloud developments expected later on, bringing showers that may be moderate in intensity and accompanied by isolated thunderstorms.
While the focus remains on the Central Plateau and the West, the weather service noted that these conditions could spread to other parts of the island as the day progresses.
Safety Warnings Issued
In response to the predicted electrical activity, the public has been advised to seek shelter and avoid open plains.
Authorities have specifically cautioned against taking cover under trees or venturing out to sea during thundery outbreaks.
Motorists should also remain vigilant, as patches of fog are expected to develop in certain areas, potentially reducing visibility on the roads.
Temperature and Wind
Despite the rain, temperatures are set to remain above the seasonal average.
- Coastal Regions: Highs will range between 31°C and 33°C, with overnight lows between 23°C and 25°C.
- Central Plateau: Daytime peaks of 27°C to 29°C are expected, dropping to between 19°C and 21°C at night.
Winds will persist from the east at approximately 15 km/h, though they may become light and variable at times.
Outlook and Sea Conditions
The unsettled weather is expected to be short-lived. Showers are forecast to gradually die out in the evening, making way for mainly fair weather overnight.
Conditions at sea remain rougher beyond the reefs. Mariners should expect south-westerly swells of up to 1.5 metres.
The meteorological station continues to monitor the situation as the atmosphere remains unstable through the afternoon.
