Portuguese National Arrested Following Rs 1.1 Million Cocaine Raid in Riambel
A 41-year-old Portuguese woman is in police custody following a targeted anti-drug operation that uncovered a significant quantity of cocaine at a coastal bungalow in southern Mauritius.
Officers from the Rose-Belle Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) executed a raid on the property on Wednesday, 13 May, seizing approximately 77 grams of cocaine.
The illicit substances were found concealed within three separate packages. The estimated street value of the haul is approximately Rs 1.1 million.
Surveillance and Arrest
The suspect, who has been residing in Mauritius for some time, had been the subject of an intensive undercover operation.
Investigators had placed the Riambel bungalow under strict surveillance for several days prior to the intervention, acting on intelligence regarding suspicious activities at the premises.
The woman was arrested on-site during the Wednesday afternoon raid.
Local authorities confirmed she had been occupying the bungalow for a significant period leading up to the discovery.
Judicial Proceedings
The 41-year-old is expected to appear before the District Court today, Thursday, 14 May. She faces a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
The ADSU investigation remains ongoing as police continue to probe the extent of the suspected trafficking operation.
