Suspended ACP Gangadin Faces DPP as Rs 160 Million Money Probe Closes
The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) is in the final stages of its investigation into Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dunraz Gangadin regarding the “Reward Money” affair. Investigator Vijay Sahye confirmed before the Port Louis Court on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, that the case file will shortly be transmitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The 63-year-old high-ranking officer, currently under suspension, was arrested on 24 July 2025.
He faces two provisional charges of money laundering involving significant sums discovered in his bank accounts.
Massive Financial Allegations
Investigators allege that ACP Gangadin held Rs 102.2 million in his accounts between January 2023 and March 2024. A further Rs 58.192 million was reportedly held between June and October 2024.
The update on the investigation’s progress was provided in response to Magistrate Prashant Bissoon, who sought an update on the status of the probe during the officer’s latest court appearance.
Bail Conditions Eased
While the legal process moves forward, the Quatre-Bornes resident has seen a relaxation of his bail conditions. Magistrate Shaheen Inshirah Daureeawoo granted a request to modify his reporting schedule.
Previously required to report to a police station daily between 6:00 am and 11:00 am, Gangadin is now only mandated to check in on Tuesdays and Saturdays between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Strict Judicial Oversight
Despite the eased reporting, the court maintained several stringent restrictions:
- No Contact: The accused is strictly prohibited from contacting any individuals involved in the case.
- Accessibility: He must provide a dedicated phone number to FCC investigators and remain reachable at all times.
- Financial Guarantees: His release remains tied to three separate bails of Rs 750,000 each and a personal recognisance of Rs 2.5 million.
The matter is scheduled to return to court on 9 September 2026.
