'Collectif Pa Tous Nou Sim Card' Exposes GM's Pressure Tactics

The collective Pa Tous Nou Sim Card, which organized a peaceful march yesterday morning May 5 in Rose-Hill, denounced government harassment and pressure regarding the re-registration of Sim Cards.

This is despite Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul’s decision in favor of maintaining the status quo.

Authorities continue to send representatives and mobile units to urge the population to re-register their Sim Cards.

The collective’s organizers praised the efforts of lawyer Pazhany Rengasamy, Ivor Tan Yan, and lawyers Rama Valayden and Sanjeev Teeluckdharry.

“Fortunately, these individuals have taken these cases to court! Otherwise, we don’t know what would have happened today.”

All eyes are now on May 13, when the case will resume in court. Lawyer Pazhany Rengasamy strongly asserts that the argument of fighting drug trafficking doesn’t hold up.

“One of the assessors, Sam Lauthan, publicly stated that the recommendation from the Lam Shang Leen commission report did not apply to the entire population, but only certain specific individuals.”

He also noted the presence of activist Bruneau Laurette in the crowd. “This man, when he was locked up at Melrose, asked me to draft his affidavit in Mauritian Creole, and that led to Franklin’s downfall,” he said.

Ivor Tan Yan called on workers not to succumb to intimidation for re-registration, emphasizing that no employer has the right to pressure anyone.

Members of the Pa Tous Nou Sim Card collective repeatedly state, “There are several more effective ways to control drugs in our prisons. A jammer will already prevent communications: why isn’t the government leaning in that direction?”

In addition to Bruneau Laurette of One Moris, other political representatives from En Avant Maurice and the Nouveaux Démocrates were also present alongside the organizers.
