Charles Cartier, the new Chief Executive Officer of Air Mauritius since Thursday, March 7, is reorganizing the company’s leadership in an effort to make it more efficient.

This is the first phase of changes, with more reshuffling and appointments to come. However, not everyone is happy with these developments.

An Operations Advisory Committee has been set up to advise the CEO on operational matters until a Chief Operations Officer is recruited.

The committee includes Patrick Ter Hofsteede, in charge of Flight Operations, Roodra Raghoobar, overseeing Management Systems, pilot Sameer Baichoo, Ziyaad Parthasee, responsible for Airmate, and Jean-Bernard Sadien, the HR director. This information was communicated in a note to employees on Wednesday, March 13.

Another significant change is the transfer of Anba Manikham, who previously served as senior manager of Cabin Operations and Inflight Services, to the Ground Services Worldwide department in a similar role.

This move has caused some concerns as Manikham has been mentioned in employee complaints. He is replaced by Jean-Hughes Young Lan Sun as the acting Lead of Cabin Operations and Inflight Services.

Roodesh Muttylall, former Head of Corporate Finance and Company Secretary at Air Mauritius, has resumed his role as Head of Corporate Finance after a selection process. He will start his new responsibilities on April 22.

The company’s management clarified that Anba Manikham’s transfer is not a promotion. Despite this, the company’s communication head, Atma Bumma, emphasized that the reorganization is not intended to be humiliating. The goal is to create a positive atmosphere that benefits passengers, employees, and the country.

The changes at Air Mauritius have sparked mixed reactions within the company. Raj Ramlugun, a small shareholder and former Air Mauritius executive, expressed concerns over the recent developments.

While he welcomed the appointment of Charles Cartier as CEO, he questioned the creation of the Operations Advisory Committee and the presence of certain individuals on it. Ramlugun also raised doubts about the transfer of Anba Manikham and criticized the Human Resources department’s decisions.

A complaint letter addressed to the new CEO on February 10 called for an audit and internal investigation into the actions of some members of the company’s new team. The return of Roodesh Muttylall to a leadership position has also been met with skepticism due to past controversies.
