As is the tradition every year, the national celebrations on March 12th were an opportunity for the State to honor citizens who have made significant contributions to the development of the country in various sectors.

This year, the highest distinction was awarded to the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, for his “valuable contribution in the banking sector”, to Dr. Jean Claude Autrey for his “valuable contributions in the fields of education and science”.

To Olivier Bancoult for his valuable contributions to the “welfare of the Chagossian Community”.

And to the late Dev Virahsawmy for his valuable contributions in the field of education, particularly in the promotion of Mauritian Creole language and literature.

These individuals will receive the Grand Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK) medal.
