In a surprising turn of events, Kishore Kumar Jeewooth, President of the District Council of Flacq has been censured by a majority vote.

The Motion of No Confidence was brought against him by Kailash Chandra Awotar, a former ally. Out of twenty-three councillors, twelve voted in favour of the motion.

President Jeewooth reportedly attempted to counter the opposition’s plan tactically, but failed.

Once a Motion of No Confidence is debated against a President, no other similar motion can be introduced for 18 months.

With the removal of three district councillors, the total now stands at twenty-three.

The ousted President is expected to schedule new presidential elections within a week.

Jeewooth was elected by a narrow margin in December last year, with the support of Ministers Deepak Balgobin and Vikram Hurdoyal.
