Some 52 public and private schools in Mauritius became the target of bomb threats this Thursday.

School officials reported receiving an email early this morning, alerting them to the presence of a bomb on their premises.

The Explosive Handling Unit and Bomb Disposal Squad of the SMF swiftly secured the locations.

Following thorough searches, no explosive devices were found. Staff and students were instructed to evacuate the buildings, except in examination centres where enhanced security measures were implemented.

Authorities are attributing this incident to a prank from a mentally unstable person.

The Central CID’s Cyber Crime Unit has also been activated to trace the origin of the “emails” that landed in the electronic mailboxes of the 52 schools.
