Challenges and Unfulfilled Promises: Alliance Morisien’s 4-Year Review
After four years since the Alliance Morisien’s victory in the 2019 general elections, the MSM-led government has faced a series of challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While the latter has attributed their inability to fulfill certain electoral goals to the pandemic, critics were cited by l’Express as questioning whether it is a “valid excuse”.
“Although the government has made progress in areas such as increased pensions, minimum wage, free school textbooks, and medical subsidies, significant issues like corruption, drug trafficking, and good governance remain unaddressed,” l’Express reported.
“The promises of equality, transparency, and democracy have also fallen short of expectations. Rising living costs continue to burden many Mauritians, and educational reforms are still pending.
While advancements have been made in healthcare with the construction of new hospitals, further improvements are required.”
Water distribution and wastewater management, it added, pose ongoing challenges, and the agriculture sector requires more attention.
