Former lord mayor and deputy speaker, Jérôme Boulle, has been approached to become the next chairman of the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA).

The MPA has been without a chairman since the sudden passing of Ashit Gungah in July.

Boulle confirmed he had accepted the part-time position but has yet to be appointed. He stressed it was not a return to politics, having pursued a career in journalism and communications after leaving politics.

Boulle was elected MP for the constituency of Grande-Rivière-NordOuest–Port-Louis-Ouest in 1976 and was lord mayor on several occasions.
