Union Demands Better Benefits and Insurance Coverage

The Mauritius Labour Congress (MLC) is putting forth a proposal to the Pay Research Bureau (PRB) advocating for improved benefits for civil servants.

They seek to provide an allowance to cover additional expenses for those using their personal vehicles for work and request government-funded insurance for accident coverage.

The MLC’s argument centers on the financial burden placed on civil servants, particularly police officers, who rely on their own vehicles for transportation to work.

They highlight that the current transportation allowance, based on bus fares, is insufficient to cover fuel and maintenance costs.

The MLC also seeks to exempt older civil servants lacking computer skills from tasks involving computer usage.

Additionally, they call on unions to promptly submit their memoranda to the PRB.
