Pharmaceutical Products Prohibited from Sale on Social Media Platforms

The Ministry of Health has issued a statement prohibiting the sale of pharmaceutical products, dietary supplements, and Ayurvedic products on social media platforms, as well as mobile applications like WhatsApp and TikTok.

This directive is based on Section 17 (2) of the Pharmacy Act of 1983, which specifies that only registered pharmacies are authorized to sell these products.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that social media platforms do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Pharmacy Board.

Ashwin Dookhun, President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Mauritius, believes that action should be taken by the Pharmacy Board. In a statement to RadioPlus on Wednesday, October 18, he expressed concerns about unfair competition for pharmacies.
