Provisional Charge Dropped Against Ex-STC Director: Court Criticises ICAC

Former STC director, Jonathandrarao Ramasamy, had a provisional charge of abuse of power dropped by Magistrate Arun Rohamally.

The Magistrate criticised the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) for the delay in the case, noting that over eighteen months have passed since the last contact between ICAC and Ramasamy.

The case concerned an Emergency Procurement exercise within the State Trading Corporation (STC) related to equipment purchases during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The investigation involved multiple individuals and complex financial records, with government funds amounting to Rs 1 billion.

Despite being provisionally accused for over two years, Ramasamy was uncertain whether formal charges would be filed against him.
