Legal Dispute Casts Uncertainty on Metro Express Phase 4 Completion

The Phase 4 expansion of the Metro Express project, connecting the major hubs of Quartier-Militaire/Moka, has been put on hold indefinitely.
This development arises from a legal dispute regarding the contract awarded to Larsen & Toubro, an Indian company.
The Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), another Indian company, has contested both the bidding process and the allocation of the contract.
Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro, the Indian construction firm overseeing the project, is facing pressure from various Mauritian subcontractors who have yet to receive payment for services rendered in the previous phases.
With most Indian workers having returned home, the situation has escalated to the point where the company is considering redirecting a significant portion of its machinery and construction equipment back to India.
This delay in the crucial infrastructure project comes ahead of the upcoming general elections, potentially affecting transportation services for the No. 8 constituency.
The legal matter is scheduled to be addressed in an Indian court on October 18.
