Dr. Yaarthi Devi Soopal-Lutchmun, the first female president of the Medical Council (MC), has resigned from her position and her role at the Ministry of Social Security to join the World Health Organization (WHO).

Her departure from the MC will lead to the appointment of a new president by the end of September through fresh elections among the elected members of the Board.

During her tenure, Dr. Soopal-Lutchmun worked on implementing changes and disciplinary measures within the medical profession to enhance the quality of healthcare. She also worked on establishing Clinical Guidelines to standardise treatments.
