Mauritius Reports Decline in International Trade: Deficit of Rs14 Billion

The trade balance for goods in June exhibited a deficit of nearly Rs 14 billion. This marked a 32.1% decline compared to the previous month and a 25.5% drop from June 2022.

According to the latest report from Statistics Mauritius, the exchange of goods and services experienced a general downturn during the month of June.

Imports, totalling Rs 22.3 billion, recorded a contraction of 22.1% compared to the previous May and a 22.1% decrease compared to June 2022.

Exports, amounting to Rs 8.4 billion, also showed a decline of 5.1% and 15.9% respectively.

In June, Mauritius’ primary export markets included South Africa (11.5%), France (10.6%), the United Kingdom (8.8%), the United States (8.1%), Spain (6.9%), and Madagascar (6.1%).

The country’s leading suppliers were China (17.6%), the United Arab Emirates (7.4%), Oman (6.9%), India (6.3%), South Africa (6.2%), and Brazil (5.8%).
