In a groundbreaking development, passengers will be able to fly directly from the UK to Mauritius on a daily basis. This historic move comes as Air Mauritius finalises its transition from Heathrow Airport to Gatwick Airport, both located in London.
Scheduled for October 29, this momentous relocation also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Air Mauritius’ operations in the UK, marking a significant milestone for the flagship carrier.
According to CAJ News, Air Mauritius and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) recently hosted a Networking Gala Evening at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London to celebrate this milestone and the imminent launch of daily direct flights from Gatwick to Mauritius.
Laurent Recoura, the Chief Commercial Officer of Air Mauritius, reportedly expressed his excitement about embarking on this new chapter and delivering exceptional service to their UK visitors. He remarked, “The growth of the UK market over the years has been a pleasure to witness, and this increased accessibility will further facilitate its expansion.”
Recognizing the significance of the first direct daily flight from the UK, the MTPA said it will not only enhance accessibility but also provide trade and consumers with the stability and confidence to book Mauritius as a preferred destination.
Girish Nunkoo, the High Commissioner of Mauritius, reiterated the exceptional qualities of the destination, which has long been a preferred choice for British holidaymakers seeking an exotic getaway.
From January to June, the island welcomed 54,231 tourists, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
