In a momentous and politically charged gathering, the Russian Embassy in Mauritius hosted a solemn reception on June 13 to commemorate Russia Day. The event, attended by high-ranking officials, reportedly became the stage for a fiery denunciation of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
President Prithvirajsing Roopun, Vice-President Eddy Boissezon, Deputy Prime Minister Louis Steven Obeegadoo, and several ministers, were present.
The event’s attendees extended beyond the host country, as representatives from business, science, and public spheres converged. Notably, heads of diplomatic missions from China, India, Egypt, Pakistan, South Africa, and Madagascar were also in attendance, amplifying the weight of this gathering.

During his speech, Russian Ambassador Konstantin Klimovskiy strongly criticised the actions of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
He condemned their supply of arms to Ukraine, support for neo-Nazi groups, and imposition of illegal economic sanctions on Russia.
Klimovskiy emphasised the failure of Western attempts to isolate Russia, highlighting the support Russia receives from “third world” countries pursuing policies based on independence, state sovereignty, and national interests.
The Ambassador also discussed the activities of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and Russia’s commitment to strengthening multipolar, legal, and democratic principles in international relations.
He expressed confidence that the historically friendly relations between Russia and Mauritius will continue to grow, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming second Russia-Africa Summit in July 2023.
