Opposition MP calls 2023/2024 Budget ‘end of era ploy to deceive electorate’

In a scathing critique, opposition MP Reza Uteem has labelled the 2023/2024 Budget 2023/2024 as one “of the end of an era, a desperate attempt to deceive an electorate now hostile towards the government.”

He said people are not fooled by such tactics.

Discussing the fiscal reforms, Uteem said “the biggest beneficiaries are undoubtedly those with a taxable income of over Rs 3 million.”

He pointed out that their net tax rate would decrease from 25% to 20%. According to Uteem, this Budget is not a socialist budget, but rather “a budget where the biggest beneficiaries are the rich and ultra-rich who will become even wealthier due to the government’s fiscal reform.”
