Outrigger Mauritius closes down after harmful bacteria detected in water system

S Hotels & Resorts has announced the temporary closure of the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort in Bel Ombre after Legionella was detected in the water management system of the 5-star hotel.
Legionella is a bacterium that can cause a severe form of pneumonia — lung inflammation. It occasionally can cause infections in wounds and in other parts of the body, including the heart.
The company is reportedly in the process of evaluating the shutdown, but estimates it should be able to resume operations in the second quarter of 2023.
Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort’s closure has reportedly put a lot of pressure on the stock price of its Thailand-based owner, SHR. Its share price closed at 3.56 baht, a drop of 9.64%.
