Mauritius Prosecutor under attack by occult group close to ruling party
Rashid Ahmine is the Director of Public Prosecutions of Mauritius.

A Facebook page said to openly promote the MSM ruling party has levelled serious accusations of a political-judicial conspiracy between Labour Party lawyers and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to release political activist Bruneau Laurette.

The latter was arrested over drugs charges but released on bail on Monday; the Office of the DPP did not not appeal against the bail release but urged investigators to speed up the inquiry.

The post has outraged members of the legal profession who denounced the pro-MSM Facebook page’s accusations.

The case is being taken very seriously, so much so that the DPP’s office has filed a police complaint against the Sun TV News page.

A group of lawyers has sought an urgent meeting of the Mauritius Bar Council to discuss the matter.

Arsonists

“Any act done or writing published calculated to bring a court or a judge into contempt or to lower his authority is a contempt of court,” explained private lawyer Neelkant Dulloo.

Kushal Lobine, MP for the PMSD Party and also a lawyer lashed out against the post. “It is the page of arsonists who hide behind an anonymous profile to make under-the-belt attacks”.

Targeted by the Sun TV News Facebook page, Labour MP and lawyer Shakeel Mohamed – who was accused of plotting to secure the release of Bruneau Laurette – deplored that police have not yet acted against the authors of these publications.

“What has happened with Sun TV News proves me right when I say that there is collusion so that justice is never done when it comes to crimes against opponents of the regime. I blame the police for their inaction”, he said.

In the meantime, the infamous page has been deactivated.
