Bankers, Insurers submit budget shopping list

Representatives of the Mauritius Bankers Association, Mauritius Finance, and Insurers’ Association have met with Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy to submit their proposals for the upcoming 2022/2023 budget.

Discussions reportedly focused on the need for capacity building and the promotion of the industry.

The Chairperson of Mauritius Finance, Mr Shahed Hoolash stressed on the importance for short and long term measures aimed at giving an impetus to the sector.

Hoolash observed that the Ukraine-Russia War has created a slowdown but has not affected the sector. He said that the industry recorded growth, with an increase in jobs.

The fact that Mauritius has been removed from EU blacklist has also led to enhanced growth in the sector, he added.

The Secretary General of the Insurers’ Association, Vashish Ramkhalawon, said discussions focused on measures aimed at bringing about reforms in several sectors such as industry specific consumer Regulations, and medical reforms.
