Compensation for relatives of road accidents victims coming up

The Mauritian government is looking into the possibility of setting up a ‘Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Corporation.’
This fund will reportedly be used to compensate and cover the medical expenses of road accident victims, Defi Media reported.
The Law Reform Commission has also proposed that financial compensation be allocated to widows or orphans of road victims.
This money will be disbursed if the person responsible for the accident or his insurer is unable to compensate the victim.
The Insurance Industry Compensation Fund, launched in 2016, currently compensates victims of hit-and-runs, under certain conditions.
