Rodrigues opposition parties against decision to postpone elections

Opposition parties in Rodrigues are up against a decision of Port Louis to postpone the regional elections (originally scheduled for February 13) to Sunday February 27.

Only recently hit by COVID-19, the island has been plagued with a record surge of almost 4,000 cases in two weeks- including its first death on Monday.

Nonetheless, the opposition believes that the decision to postpone the elections, announced on 7 January by the Office of the President of the Republic and confirmed by the Prime Minister, is allegedly meant to “help the Organization of the Rodriguan People (OPR) – the party in power”.
