Mauritius international reserves fall by Rs27.3 billion in one month

The Gross Official International Reserves (GOIR) of Mauritius has decreased by Rs27.3 billion during the month of January 2022, representing a dip of around 7%.

A document by the Economic Analysis & Research and Statistics Department of the Bank of Mauritius dated 07 February 2022 states that the reserves fell from Rs372.7 billion (equivalent to USD8,562 million) as at end-December 2021 to Rs345.4 billion (equivalent to USD7,910 million) as at end-January 2022.

As a result, the country’s import cover dropped from 21.months to 20.2 months in January.

During the month, the country’s gross assets in gold also decreased by around Rs356million.
