New law to restrict speed limit to 30-40 km/h

Motorists are warned. The Road Traffic (Speed) Regulations 2011 will soon be amended to set the maximum speed limits between 30km/hr to 40km/hr along ‘collector/distributor’ roads, according to Cabinet papers.

The decision follows recommendations of the United Nations and the World Health Organisation.

“The classification of ‘Urban’ and ‘Rural’ roads will be subdivided into two categories to establish a hierarchy of roads in accordance with their primary functions, Cabinet said.
