Five Kenyans charged for diverting sugar destined for Mauritius
Five Kenyans have been charged for diverting goods destined for Mauritius.
On their arrest, they were made to appear before the Naivasha Law Courts (North-west of Nairobi) with four counts of Customs offences, including diverting sugar destined for Mauritius.
According to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the accused persons faced counts of removal of customs seal, having unaccustomed goods, interfering with goods subject to customs control and diverting from a transit route.
The offences are contrary to sections of East Africa Community Customs Act regulations.
Upon conviction, the suspects face imprisonment of a term not exceeding three years or a fine of US$ 2,500 (Rs105,000).
