Two new cases of alleged police brutality have emerged. One suspect arrested in a case of robbery has ended up on wheelchair while the other, arrested for “assault against police officer”, can “no longer recognise his relatives”.

The mother of one the suspects, Rivano Pitchen, reportedly filed a complaint at the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), to seek explanations on how her son ended up with several bruises and in a wheelchair while he was being taken to the Criminal Investigation Division in Trou-aux-Biches.

Rivano Pitchen, 26, known to police as “Peng”, was arrested on Friday, September 23 after a hectic man-hunt. He reportedly tried to escape by jumping on the roof tops of several houses.

Police said the suspect fell while trying to jump over a three-metre wall and they had difficulty to control and disarm him.

Three police officers were injured during the operation..
