Political appointments at Electoral Supervisory Commission denounced

Leaders of the ‘L’entente de L’Espoir’ (alliance of hope), regrouping opposition political parties MMM, PMSD and the Reform Party, have strongly condemned the government’s decision to appoint two new Board members on two electoral entities.

The two persons (Mrs Shadmeenee Mootien and Mr Yashvirsingh Roopun), they claimed, are close to the MSM ruling political – and cannot be on the Board of the Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC) and the Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC).

MMM Leader Paul Berenger said that the ESC and EBC are the foundation of the island’s democratic system and the nomination of the two “notorious activists is a blatant disrespect of our constitution.”

PMSD leader Xavier- Luc Duval said the nominations are in breach against the principles of good governance.

The political leaders warned that they will file a lawsuit before the Supreme Court if the President of the Republic, Mr. Pradeep Roopun proceeds with the appointment of the two MSM activists.
