Financial Secretary's contract renewed for another year

The contract of Finance Secretary Dev Manraj, which was expected to expire in October, has been extended by another year at the request of the Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy.

l’Express reported that the 72 year-old, who has somehow managed to be in the good books of and work under successive governments, also chairs the boards of several state-owned entities.

He is presently the Chairman of Air Mauritius and Board Director of Mauritius Telecom Ltd, Economic Development Board and Metro Express Ltd and has also been Board Director of Airports Terminal Operations Ltd (ATOL) amongst others.

While four Deputy Financial Secretaries are vying for the top job, l’Express said “nothing prevents the minister to initiate procedures to get someone from the private sector.”
