This picture taken by Defi Media reporter Al Khizr Ramdin has been going around on all print and social media.

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth (and leader of the MSM ruling party) and former Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party Dr Navin Ramgoolam were spotted as having a “chat” on at least two occasions at the recent celebrations of India’s Independence Day.

The first conversation reportedly lasted for five minutes – marked by outbursts of laughter – and they reportedly spoke again for several seconds.

According to Defi Media, the two party leaders have not been on speaking terms since 2011. The situation is said to have been soured in 2015 after Labour lost power, followed by the unceremonious arrest of Dr Ramgoolam.

The ‘chat’ has triggered a flurry of comments, with many interpreting it as a probable “koz kozer’ (discussion over a probable alliance) – which, according to others, remains an unlikely option.
